Peridot, birthstone for August.

Originating in ancient Egypt, it repelled evil and fascinated with its unique olive-green color. Imported to Europe as knight's stone during the Crusades, it became a symbol of sacred adornment in the Baroque period. Composed of magnesium, iron and silica, its hue varies from light to deep green, influenced by the amount of iron.

The largest existing Peridot comes from the island of Zabargad, off the Egyptian coast, weighs 62 grams and is kept in Washington at the Smithsonian Institution.

Associated with the signs of Libra, Leo and Virgo. Evoking the color of the olive tree, it is a symbol of peace and success. It is said to have virtues, bringing luck and self-confidence.
