The signet ring, an ancient tradition

The signet ring is undoubtedly one of the most emblematic pieces of jewelry. Its origins date back over 4,000 years to ancient Egypt, where it was used as a personal seal to attest the authenticity of official documents. It quickly became a status symbol, particularly in France in the Middle Ages, where nobles used it to seal their documents.

According to the ancient rules of French nobility, the signet ring was worn on the left ring finger by the eldest male member of the family, although it could also be worn on the right ring finger without altering its significance. Over time, the signet ring lost its practical utility, but came back into fashion in the 18th century, prized by the elite and engraved with coats of arms, testifying to membership of recognized lineages.

Today, signet rings are worn by everyone, regardless of rank, and with a variety of engravings and materials. Some choose to wear it on the index finger, while others opt for originality by placing it on the middle or little finger, for a unique and assertive style.
