The origins of Olympic and Paralympic medals

A symbolic tradition

Discover the story of Chaumet's Olympic medals, embodying excellence and determination the 5,000 medals for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games were created in France, using sophisticated artisanal techniques.

Maison Chaumet, established on Place Vendôme since 1812, has created a design incorporating a fragment of the Eiffel Tower's original iron, used during construction and removed during renovation. There are exactly 18 grams for each one.

Monnaie de Paris, for its part, used complex minting methods to bring these medals to life, made from 100% recycled silver and gold. The bronze of the third-place medals, made from an alloy of copper, tin and zinc, comes from the recycling of scrap metal from other Monnaie de Paris productions.

Each medal features a hexagon, the symbol of France, surrounded by engraved rays representing the nation's influence and Paris, the City of Light.

Symbols of excellence, motivation and self-improvement, these medals, which will be distributed throughout the summer, will tell stories of effort and victory.
